World University Rankings 2024: These are the best universities in the world

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the world’s leading higher education specialists, has released their global university rankings for the year, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has emerged at rhe top of the rankings for the 12th year in a row.

“Featuring 1,500 institutions – QS World University Rankings 2024 introduces three new indicators to reflect the changing priorities of students and the evolving missions of world-class higher education institutions today: a commitment to sustainability; even greater emphasis on supporting graduate employability and increased international research collaboration to solve the world’s biggest challenges.,” the publication https://chubbyparade.com/ said.

Institutions in both Europe and America dominate the top 10 rankings, many of which received perfect scores of 100 in indicators such as: ‘Academic reputation’, ‘Employer reputation’ and ‘Faculty/Student ratio’.

National University of Singapore (NUS), is the only institution from Asia to sit in the top 10.

University of California (UCB) is the only institution to have earned a perfect score of 100 in the new ‘Sustainability’ indicator – followed closely by the University of Pennsylvania (ranked 12th), University of Toronto (ranked 21st) and University of British Columbia (ranked 34th) – all with scores of 99.9.

New entrants
This year features 85 new entrants – more than half are from Asia, with Bangladesh (11 new institutions), Indonesia (10), India and Malaysia (five each) and Kazakhstan (four) having the highest representation. Two of the new entrants are in the Top 10 rankings: National University of Singapore and University of California, Berkley.

Other new locations featured in this year’s rankings include Iceland and Luxemburg (with one institution each), as well as Nigeria (two) and Ethiopia (one). The best results among new entrants were demonstrated by Hamad bin Khalifa University from Qatar and University of Luxemburg, securing their place in the top 400.

Speaking in a recent interview, QS Founder and President, Nunzio Quacquarelli, said, “While we have always tried to remain consistent in our methodology, we must also evolve to reflect the changing missions of universities.

“We recognise that the global student community we serve understand the significance of the climate crisis and see a real responsibility among universities in supporting the sustainability agenda,” he added.
